The opening reception at the Artery was quite pack as it normally is at the Artery. Many wonderful pieces of encaustics/mixed media and cold wax/oils were on displayed – each piece had a different take on the use of wax.

There were many pieces that I admired. But Cynthia Schildhauer’s paintings caught my eye – encaustics, textural landscapes. Her images were based on photos she had taken. She incorporated recycled or decorative papers like kleenex tissue with swirling circles or mesh into her paintings for added elements and textures. The added thick wax gives the paintings a 3-D look. To see more of her works check out http://www.cynthiaart.com/.

I came away from the reception with ideas and inspirations. And first time ever since I participated in the Second Friday ArtAbout I sold a painting, “Torn Apart”.
