Should I or Shouldn’t I Do Calligraphy?

Before I became a dedicated oil painter, I was a dedicated calligrapher. I just finished this certificate fill-in for an UCD certificate – just the name and date.
Should I totally be committed to just oil painting? Or should I juggled between oil painting and calligraphy? I was sorting through some old calligraphy workshops notes and felt that familiar tug for lettering. Maybe just maybe I may reconsider.

    1. Thanks for your comment!

I might have written her name if it’s with the UCD Shields Society. Doing just names and dates are no problem for me but it’s the wedding projects that can be a bit challenging. Right now I’m working on a poem for a friend with no deadline which works pretty well for me.

  1. I think it’s a wonderful craft! Just starting to think I should take it up again myself. It’s very timely, you know. Very trendy at the moment. I always thought one could incorporate it in painting somehow. Not in my current style of painting, though 🙂

    1. Yes, it seems like I’m seeing more and more of calligraphy and lettering on the web. Here’s an artist you might want to check out who combined calligraphy and abstract in his paintings, Joe Boissy. Enjoy!

      1. Amazing abstracts…I do see some calligraphic strokes in his works. In fact I had done some myself after graduating from college – mainly working in large flat brushes in oils. But his works are in a higher level; more depth. Thanks for sharing.
