More People Sketching

My weekend was busy with people sketching. This time I went to the Square Tomato Arts and Crafts Fair this past weekend. Sketched vendors, shoppers, musicians…tried to get a couple of volunteers to pose for me but no go.

Let’s Draw Davis at the Farmers Market

Let’s Draw Davis sketchcrawl group met yesterday at the Davis Farmers Market. The weather was perfect after a week of rain and so it was packed with people. I capture the facepainting lady who is there every week. And then I attempted some people sketching…I was captivated with what people were wearing…such as the man with the red pants who was carrying a purple bag and wearing an oversized coat.

Gestural People Sketching

I spend Saturday morning at the Community Park where most of the recreational soccer games were played. Just to sketch people…parents watching the games and the young soccer players.

I had been following Jieko on Instagram. Especially her sketches of people. I found by exaggerating the figures I felt I could captured people easier, more gestural.

Below sketch first the soccer players in watercolor. Afterward did a gestural outline of the figures.

Urbansketching in Davis and Woodland

I had been more into sketching buildings lately especially after taking the Sketchbook Skool course on Urbansketching.

In Davis, I was drawn to these very old apartments that I’ve seen for over 30 years. Located next to them was a sandwich shop that I took my then very young sons after a play at the park. What struck me about these apartments was the entry facade, not often seen in modern day buildings.

Nearby to the apartments are these very new townhomes. Colors and brickworks are what makes these modern day places unique.

A month later I ate at one of my favorite places in Woodland, California. A hole in a wall place that served Italian and Scandinavian cuisune. They are known for their outdoor oven.
