The past weekend 28 artists in Davis open up their studios for visitors and possible sales. This was the second year for me. And I realized after this weekend that it will a part of my art yearly event.
This portrait is number 34 of oil portraits paintings that I had been doing in the Zorn palette. I wasn’t planning to sell it. It was laid out to dry completely and then later to be scan. But a dear friend wanted it and is interested in buying it.
The final painting of the Thirty Paintings in 30 Days challenge. I almost didn’t get it done. I came down with a cold last night. Tired from the medications I took for the cold, I started this painting in the morning and finally finished it late afternoon. I wiped off 3 times before I finally felt it was right. Quick and gestural.
Last two days of the challenge! I do confess that I had painted some of these paintings before the start of the challenge. But I do paint everyday.
This portrait sketch is number 30 of the oil portraits painted in the zorn palette (titamiun white, ivory black, cadmium red and yellow ochre). It was painted from a photo that I took of the model. It’s been a long road but I’m slowly getting there.
There’s a few details that I’m not happy with – the right side of her face is a bit too wide and her choke collar is not drawn well. But the values are there.
