Pence Gallery Garden Tour Exhibit

Every year the Pence Gallery holds the annual Garden Tour in Davis. Certain gardens are chosen for their designs and use of native Californian plants in their yards. I had an opportunity to be the artist on-site in two of these gardens.

These two paintings were from one home and were done from photographs. I attempted to paint plein air but the hot afternoon sun sweated my oils that I found difficult to work from. Painting exteriors scenes is something I normally don’t do. I think my approach here became more illustrative than painterly.

These paintings will be exhibited along with other arts done during the garden tour for the month of June at the Pence Gallery.

I wanted to document the fields  before the development of subdivisions take over.

Plein Air Painting

Out and about at the Capay Valley Vineyards for the Yolo County Arts and Ag Project. Breathtaking views! First time I’ve tried out my new laptop pochade box from *Guerilla and it works quite well. It stores all my paints and gamsol. My brushes I carry separately. Though built for a 9 x 12 inches panels, I can also paint 8 x 10 in. panels or any size smaller with the adjusters. Looking forward to doing more plein aire with this pochade art box

Clarence Scott Hill Ranch

Clarence Scott Hill Ranch

6 X 8 inches, oil on canvas panel

For April, the Clarence Scott Hill Ranch open up its land for artists and photographers to come and paint or take photos. A wonderful experience to visit land normally not accessible to the public.

These monthly visits to the ranches and farms is part of a program, the Art & Ag Project sponsored by the Yolo Arts Council. The reception in November provide an opportunity for the public to purchased these pieces.
