This past weekend I went to a workshop in Los Gatos on alla prima portrait painting. We stayed at a hotel, Garden Inn that had a relaxing patio with palm trees and water fountains. Couple with a cool breeze, it was a wonderful way to start a busy weekend.
We went to La Boulanger for breakfast twice. Each time we went there was a homeless woman eating breakfast with her neatly packed belongings nearby. I was impressed how she carefully wrapped and packed each one.
First of a series of tiny paintings. Yolo Causeway Series.
This painting is part of a series of miniature dollhouse sized paintings of the Yolo Causeway. While my husband is driving, I snapped photos with my smartphone of the vast rice fields stretching across the width of the Yolo Causeway freeway. These photos then becomes references for the mini paintings.
It was a great way to getaway and meet up with a friend just to talk.
I discovered this little sketchbook made by Holbein. It handles watercolor well and is not very thick so I can carry it in my bag. Plus it’s spiralbound.
