Another commission done! This time with three dogs on one canvas. All three dogs are close friends named Blue, Ballou and in the middle is Miss Marple. Miss Marple is the oldest and at 16 passed away. Instead of just painting their portraits as I did with the others, I wanted to include their whole body especially their toes. Their touching toes showed how close they were.
Stages: Pencil sketch, then block-in in oil on canvas and the open grisalle before the actual painting.
A recent commission of two dogs. The client is from Germany and wanted two sizes, one at 9 x 12 inches and the other is a smaller size at 3 x 4 inches for a dollhouse. Both are painted in oil on stretched canvas.
Here are the step by step.

This little white dog, Gigi, was with her dog walker when I met up with her at the park. Such an affectionate dog. One morning I spotted her rolling on the grass, enjoying the cool grass and the summer breeze.
First of a series of tiny paintings. Yolo Causeway Series.
This painting is part of a series of miniature dollhouse sized paintings of the Yolo Causeway. While my husband is driving, I snapped photos with my smartphone of the vast rice fields stretching across the width of the Yolo Causeway freeway. These photos then becomes references for the mini paintings.
I have to say I’m having a ball just painting fruits…tiny paintings of fruits. This one is a tiny painting of only 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches. Quickly done up within the hour. At first glance, the blueberries appeared as one solid color; but the challenge here was to capture the various subtle colors of blues. The more I developed those slight variations of blues the more realistic they became.
